Watch the Sky in the City

ARISS SSTV Commemorative Activity

Special Slow Scan Television (SSTV) transmissions are expected to be
made from
the International Space Station on 145.800 MHz FM around the weekend of
July 15.

In commemoration of their 20th anniversary, the ARISS team is planning to
transmit a set of 12 SSTV images that capture the accomplishments of
ARISS over
that time.

The ARISS SSTV Blog says:

While still to be scheduled, we anticipate the SSTV operation to occur
around
the weekend of July 15.  We are planning for at least a 2 day operation,
but are
working for a potential longer operation. Note that all of this
tentative and
may change based on crew scheduling and ISS operations.

Starting with our first meeting in November 1996, our joint operations
on Mir,
becoming the first operational payload on ISS in November 2000 to our 1103rd
school contact (so far), ARISS’ accomplishments have been tremendous. We
have
touched the lives of many and inspired and educated countless students
to pursue
science, technology, engineering and math careers.

Please stay tuned as more details on our SSTV event will be communicated
in the
coming weeks.  Please spread the word.  And think about how you can get
students
in your area involved in capturing these images.  We would love to hear your
stories on how that goes.

RSP2 SDR:

Funcube Dongle Pro+ (這個頻寬只有 14.000 - 14.150 )

---------------------------------------------------
Get Your Iridium Fix Before It’s Too Late!

The shock and dazzle of Iridium flares will soon be a thing of the past.
Here's how to make the most of seeing them before a new generation of spacecraft
replaces the Iridium satellites.

Each of the approximately 66 Iridiums in orbit have three door-sized
aluminum antennae treated with highly reflective, silver-coated Teflon for
temperature control.

When the angle between observer and satellite is just right, sunlight
reflecting off an antenna can cause the satellite to surge from invisibility up to
magnitude –8.5 in a matter of seconds. If you've never seen one, the searing
brilliance may make you recoil instinctively. On rare occasions, flares can
reach magnitude –9.5. That's 100 times brighter than Venus!

Sadly, that era will soon draw to a close. On January 14th, SpaceX’s
Falcon 9
delivered the first 10 of a new generation of Iridium NEXT satellites to
low-
Earth orbit, starting the process to replace the older units in a maneuver
called slot-swapping. While the new birds will provide faster data rates and
enhanced global communications, their antenna design is completely
different and not expected to produce significant flares.

Heavens Above is one of the easiest sites to get you looking in the
right place at the right time. The Heavens Above website allows for easy figuring and
finding of Iridium flares.

Just sign in and give it your location, then click the Iridium Flares
link under the Satellites heading on the left side of the homepage. A table will
pop open with a week's worth of passes that includes pertinent information like
brightness, altitude, and magnitude of the flare at flare center, the
brightest possible magnitude for a particular pass. Clicking on the date will
produce a map showing the flare's path and ground track where the flare will appear
brightest. When that path passes near or over your location, you'll see a –8
dazzler. If not, you can use the map to drive to the sweet spot and
await the display.

The transition to the Iridium NEXT generation will be gradual but
certain, so make the most of the opportunities that remain. If you're a teacher, do your
homework and plan an outing to show a daytime flare to your science class.
Anything that gets people talking more about the sky is a good thing, and I
guarantee those kids will never forget the sight.

Upcoming Contacts

*  A direct contact via BNØSH with students at Sacred Heart Primary School,
New Taipei City, Taiwan, R.O.C, is scheduled for Tue 2016-08-02 08:36:03
UTC.
The scheduled astronaut is Takuya Onishi, KF5LKS.

The Sacred Heart Primary School in Taiwan was founded in 1965 and is part
of the world family of Sacred Heart Schools which can be found on five
continents. Its philosophy of education is rooted in the development of the
whole person. This founding vision was that of a great educator- Madeleine
Sophie Barat - who lived at the time of the French Revolution. In her
day, as
in ours, the social fabric was disintegrating. Her response was to try to
rebuild and transform society through an education based on solid
intellectual
training and spiritual values leading to the development of the whole
person.

Sacred Heart Education
People in East Asia are, to a large extent, shaped by Confucianism, whose
tradition stresses respect for teachers and family. Our teachers are
provided
with regular in service training to enable them to meet the unique
challenges
of personal and social responsibility, posed by the influence of modern
technology and the Western stress on individualism, which are rapidly
changing
our world. At the same time, they learn to nurture a global awareness and
concern in their students.
Sacred Heart School strives to give students a well-rounded education, based
on the conviction that each person has talents and capacities which can
contribute to the betterment of society. We believe that school is the place
for students to both acquire a love of learning and experience hope, joy and
fullness of life.
We are convinced that true human development is based on faith in God's love
for each person.Youngsters of various religious beliefs are welcome.
Faith is
integrated with life and students are offered an education which teaches
personal values and emphasizes mutual respect among all people. At the same
time, a deep appreciation for intellectual values is cultivated, allowing
students to be knowledgeable, questioning, and reflective.
Our students are taught to be persons capable of being both independent and
able to work with others; of having a compassionate heart ? especially
for the
marginalized of society and of experiencing joy in service and in living for
others. Creativity is encouraged in the teaching of all subjects so that the
students can develop their own vision and learn to live with commitments.

Profile
At present the school has 781 students from 7 to 12 years of age. The campus
is ideally situated in the suburbs, at the foot of the Goddess of Mercy
Mountain, with the Tamsui River in the foreground. School buildings are
surrounded by spacious gardens with abundant flowers, birds and trees. We
believe that both dedicated educators and a healthy environment are
essential
to quality education which will influence the students for life..

Beijing Launches Three More Amateur Radio Satellites

On September 25, 2015 at 01:41 UT Beijing launched three satellites with
amateur radio payloads from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center (JSLC)
in the
Gobi desert, Inner Mongolia. They were carried on a new launcher, Beijing’s
first solid-fuel rocket Chang Zheng 11 (CZ-11), and deployed in a 470 x
485 km,
97.3 degree inclination Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO).

This launch occurred just over 5 days after nine satellites carrying amateur
radio payloads were launched by Beijing from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch
Center (TSLC) in Shanxi on September 19 at 23:01 UT.

The satellites were developed by students at the Nanjing University of
Aeronautics and Astronautics in collaboration with the Shanghai Engineering
Center for Microsatellites (SECM).

The main goal of the mission is to experiment with Software Defined Radio
(SDR) in space. The amateur radio payloads will be used for exchanging
Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) information with the amateur radio
ground control station. Information about the telemetry will be made
publicly
available so that radio amateurs around the world may track and monitor the
health of the satellites.

Other payloads include a video camera along with receivers for dual-band
GPS/Beidou, Maritime Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Aeronautical
Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B).

Using MEMS based cold-gas micropropulsion it is planned to demonstrate
formation flying by two of the CubeSats along with inter satellite
communication using GAMALINK 2.4 GHz spread spectrum at 1 Mbps and the
CubeSat
Space Protocol (CSP).

The TW-1A and TW-1B CubeSats are 2U (20x10x10cm) in size while TW-1C is 3U
(30x10x10cm).

Michael Chen BD5RV reports the satellites have these downlinks in the
435-438
MHz ITU Amateur Satellite Service allocation:
• Tianwang-1A (TW-1A / SECM): Camera, 435.645 MHz GMSK 4800/9600 CSP TX
interval 10s
• Tianwang-1B (TW-1B / NJUST-2): AIS, 437.645 MHz GMSK 4800/9600 CSP TX
interval 20s
• Tianwang-1C (TC-1C / NJFA-1): ADS-B, 435.645 MHz GMSK 4800/9600 CSP TX
interval 10s
Note: TW-1A and 1C use the same frequency.

On the same launch was the technology demonstration satellite Pujian-1 which
has WiFi for intra-satellite communications.

Object identification from information supplied by Nico Janssen PA0DLO and
Zhang Xuan BH4DBE:
TW-1A object 40928, 2015-051B
TW-1B object 40927, 2015-051C, (other IDs: TianWang 1B, NJUST-2)
TW-1C object 40926, 2015-051D
Pujian 1 object 40925, 2015-051A

CAMSAT XW-2 Satellites Launch Information

http://www.hellocq.net/forum/read.php?tid=344067&ds=1&page=e#a

Alan Kung BA1DU has posted launch information for the XW-2 (CAS-3) satellites on the AMSAT Bulletin Board.
Launch time: UTC 23:00:00 on 2015-09-18
The satellites will separate from rocket at UTC 23:15:14 on 2015-09-18
The satellites will be launched on Beijing’s new Chang Zheng 6 (CZ-6) rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center.
It is understood the CZ-6 is carrying at least nine satellites with payloads operating in amateur bands. They include six satellites (designated XW-2A to XW-2F) with 435/145 MHz linear transponders for SSB/CW communications, and one satellite with an FM voice transponder. The frequencies to be used by the satellites are here.
XW-2A should operate in a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of about 450 km, with the other satellites at an altitude of about 530 km.
